  Introduction  
       
 
The Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) set up in 1927, is the national institution for the task of coordinating all the research activities under S&T Programme in the field of Irrigation and Power and disseminating the results thereof. The State Chief Engineers-in-charge of all Irrigation and Power authorities, various River Boards, Flood Commissions and Planning Commission are the members of the Board and hence the Board has the feed back of problems in the field of design, construction and maintenance of irrigation and power projects which require research studies, analysis of data and formulation of rational and practicable solutions.

  Objective  
 

The main objective of Research Scheme on Power (RSOP) is to tackle the operational problems faced in the field of design, construction, operation and maintenance of the power systems generation through utilisation with a view to maintain quality of power supply with the least interruptions.

 
  Who can submit a proposal  
 
Research Stations/Institutions of State Electricity Boards, Central Research Stations, Universities, Regional Engineering Colleges, Indian Institute of Technology, National Organisations and Public Sector Undertakings having infrastructure, basic facilities and expertise for taking up studies.
 
  When and how to submit a proposal  
 
Fifteen copies of research project proposal to be submitted in the prescribed proforma at any time during the year.

Proposals in the areas related to the following disabilities including cerebral palsy will be supported:

  Components of grant  
 
Technical staff salaries, travelling expenses, equipment (other than outline) required specially for the study and experimental expenditure including computer time, consumable, miscellaneous expenditure during the study period.
 
  Items not allowed out of grant  
 
Creation of basic infrastructure, administrative posts and funds for building, vehicles, office furniture, library books and periodicals etc.
 
       
  Mechanism of implementation and monitoring  
 
There are eight Advisory Committees consisted of experts from different areas connected with the subject for evaluation of new proposals. The recommended projects are submitted to the Ministry of Power. The High Level Committee/Empowered Working Group under the Ministry approves the project.
The progress of the project is monitored by CBIP and the respective Advisory Committee on a quarterly basis.
Five copies of the PCR are required to be submitted. Copies of the PCR are circulated to user agencies. A copy of the PCR is kept in the library.
