ALL INDIA COUNCIL FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION (AICTE)
 
  Introduction  
       
 

The All India Councilfor Technical Education (AICTE) initially set up as an Advisory Committee in 1945 reinforced by 1987 AICTE Act is empowered to take all such steps as it may think fit for ensuring proper planning, coordinated and integrated development, planned quantitative growth in technical education as also regulations and maintenance of norms and standards for matters connected therewith. Various programmes of AICTE is carried out through Bureaus, Boards and Regional Committees.

 
 

The Bureau of Research Development, Industry-institute interaction (RDII) has been assigned with the responsibility of looking into R&D activities.

  Objective  
 

The major objectives are to equip institutions for achieving excellence in emerging/high-tech/thrust areas of research and generation of new and emerging technology, to cope up research and technological aspects of the global needs, to promote mutual interaction and collaborative research with R&D organisations/industries as also to create excellence and need-based research for national development and global requirement.

 
  Who can submit a proposal  
 

All Engineering, Technology and Management Institutions including IITs, IIMs,University Departments, Deemed Universities, Regional Engineering Colleges,Government and aided engineering colleges recognised by All India Council of Technical Education can apply under the above schemes.


 
  When and how to submit a proposal  
 

The proposals are invited by the Bureau through an information brochure from institutions with time schedule. Proposals should be submitted with details of institutions, department and project as per format given in the brochure.

Staff support, equipment, chemicals and glassware directly connected with the project work, Travel, computer time, stationery & printing and contingency.
 
       
  Items not allowed out of grant  
 

Funds are provided for equipment, product/prototype development/industrial based development of sectors, expansion of facilities, contingencies, commercial application of research output, industrial based R&D output, patent/research/technology know-how, technology transfer, hiring services,restructuring courses, human resources, writing of technical books, manpower training, seminars/conferences etc. The cost of project should not exceed Rupees 25 lakhs

 
  Items not allowed out of grant  
 

Building, furniture, electrical fittings and hiring services of technical project support are not allowed.

 
  Mechanism of implementation and monitoring  
 

The proposals are initially scrutinised by Expert Scrutiny Committee and selected PIs are invited for presentation before Expert Committee. The recommendations of the Expert Committee are placed before the Board of Research for final decision.

The institution where the project is sanctioned is required to constitute an Annual Performance Committee (APC) for the purpose of annual monitoring of the project. The mid-term appraisal and the final review are done by the Council. The PI is required to present the progress before Monitoring and Evaluation Committee.

Research and Development (R&DP)
 
  Objective  
 

The objective of the scheme is to support scientists/ technologists/engineers or group of researchers in inter-disciplinary or high-tech/priority/emerging/thrust areas of research in technical education. In addition it supports for creation of innovation/excellence, strengthening of indigenous technology (urban or rural based)or need based research to industry and global technology base.
