Ministry of Welfare is the nodal Ministry for providing/ implementing a wide ranging welfare measures in specific areas such as welfare for the handicapped. It also promotes development of aids and appliances through its technology development programme.

  Objective  
 

The objectives are to coordinate, fund and direct application of technology in the development and utilisation of:

 
Suitable and cost-effective aids and appliances
 
Methods of education and skill development leading to enhancement of opportunities for employment, easier living and mobility, communication, recreation and integration in society.

 

  
  Who can submit a proposal  
 
Scientists/Engineers/Researchers from Academic & Research Institutions, Public Sector/Private Sector industries, Non-Governmental organisations having some basic & essential facilities to carry out the research programmes.
 
  When and how to submit a proposal  
 
Thirty copies of the proposal in the prescribed format can be submitted any time during the year.
 
  Areas of research support  
 
Proposals in the areas related to the following disabilities including cerebral palsy will be supported:
 
 
 
Orthopaedic
 
Visual
 
Hearing
 
Mental
 
  Components of grant  
 
Equipment, staff-salaries, consumables, internal travel, contingencies, computer time charges, consultancy, maintenance.
  
  Items not allowed out of grant  
 
Basic infrastructure and buildings.
 
       
  Mechanism of implementation and monitoring  
 
After initial scrutiny the proposals are considered by respective Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs). The recommendations of the TAGs are placed before the Apex Level Committee (ALC) for its approval.
The projects are monitored quarterly with the help of the experts from the TAGs and ALC.
Five copies of the PCR are required to be submitted. PCR is kept in the division.
